Habitat Conservation Plan

Semitropic proposes to acquire in fee approximately 4,000 acres of land for its proposed well field as part of its Stored Water Recovery Unit Project (SWRU). As of September 1, 2004, approximately 3,000 acres have already been acquired through voluntary sales by landowners.

Since this land is native undeveloped land and is designated as prime habitat land by the Kern County HCP, Semitropic prepared its own Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) and submitted it to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for review in August 2000.

In its HCP, Semitropic proposes to self-mitigate for disturbance caused by the project and then establish a mitigation bank for other agencies. As of September 1, 2004, the HCP is still under review by the U.S. Fish and Game Service. When it is approved and in final form, a copy may be obtained from the district. Continue visiting this site for updates about the HCP.
